CANVAS is dedicated to addressing the barriers to financial and economic livelihood and security faced by artists in Ontario.
To assist artists to achieve sustainable livelihoods so that their creativity continues to benefit the health, well-being, and growth of our communities
CANVAS (formerly CARFO) is a registered visual arts charity based out of Toronto committed to addressing the barriers to financial and economic livelihood and security faced by artists in Ontario. At the core of its work is the Artist Relief Fund, which provides basic life necessities to artists that are dealing with financial hardship. The fund gives financial subsidies to artists to assist with the cost of housing, food, and other life basics, while also providing in-kind support services through community partners to assist with day-to-day needs (medical, legal, insurance, and art materials, for example). At the same time, CANVAS creates educational and networking opportunities for artists that will increase their capacity to generate their own sustainable income.
